8 Signs You Might Be Perfect for a Viral Video

Some say that in order to make a viral video you need simplicity, an engaging personality and a purpose. We think you need goats, auto-tune and a marriage proposal. If any of the following apply to you, consider yourself a walking potential Internet sensation.

1. You are a cat
Your 15 minutes of fame is quite possibly the easiest to achieve. You can simply jump into a wall, knock over those pesky kids always trying to grab your tail, or play with a box. YouTube has about 12,700,000 videos about cats. In 2010, a study found that the average YouTube clip is 4 minutes and 12 seconds, meaning there could be more than 50,800,000 minutes of cats on YouTube alone. It would take you more than 96 years to watch all of those precious cat moments.

2. You are a goat that either faints or screams
The myotonic fainting goats wowed the Internet world with their lack of self-control resulting in freezing for 10ish seconds when feeling panicked. But the goats that weren’t experiencing the limelight got jealous, and started yelling at their human companions in scary people-sounding screams. Kudos, goats, you really keep coming up with new material every time we think you are fading away. You even won our hearts at the 2013 super bowl where you ate all the Doritos and then had a fit about it.

3. You sound better in auto tune
But then again, who doesn’t?

4. You’re song will inspire thousands of parody videos worldwide
Psy’s “Gangnam Style” is the most viewed video on YouTube ever. And with the mix of a western-esque lasso combined with imaginary horse riding dance move, singing on the toilet, and a 70’s style disco bus, what’s not to love. I only wish I could understand any of the words besides “ay sexy ladies.” Nevertheless, tons of celebs copied Psy’s signature dance move, catapulting the already popular video to unearthly stardom. “Friday” by Rebecca Black is another great example of how you can write a catchy song that is just so unconventional that everyone from Annoying Orange to Star Wars to Ice Cube will make parody videos to figure out where to sit in that damn car and what day comes after Thursday.

5. You seem to be in the right place at the right time and you know the words
You may remember this guy who, after being arrested for intoxication decided to plead his case in the form of belting out a famous Queen song in the back of a cop car, headbanging and all. But you may not have seen this Jay Leno skit where Jack Rafferty surprises people at gas pumps with a karaoke request for free gas! If you are one of those people who seems to always be at the right spot at the right time, make sure you are ready for your greatness!

6. You want to do something absolutely insane.
You make us want to cringe, throw-up, and cheer all at the same time, and that happens to make for some golden viral video moments. These people who seem to have the most fun time in the world doing something that most of us would not do if our life depended on it. Not unlike Felix Bumgartner who wanted to free-fall from 128 THOUSAND feet. In case you were wondering, a normal skydiving height is somewhere around 10 to 15 thousand feet. That absurd height mixed with the fact that he broke the sound barrier, flying at a speed of 843.6 mph (Mach 1.25), shows that if you are someone who wants to do something that most of us would find deranged or psychotic (but awesome at the same time) you probably will go viral.

7. You want to take a stand
After Abercrombie and Fitch’s CEO made a classic PR mistake and told America that they didn’t want unattractive or overweight customers, outraged citizens took to the streets to show A&F how ticked off they were. In case you missed the statement, made back in 2006 by Mike Jeffries: “We go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive, all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.” The Invisible Children “Kony 2012” video tried to take a stand as well, earning over 90 million views before the hype started to fizzle.

8. You are being proposed to in a really weird way
Maybe you find yourself in a fake plane crash. And then all of the sudden when you realize you aren’t PLUMETTING TO YOUR DEATH you are happily engaged. Or this girl who almost had a heart attack when her soon-to-be fiancé jumped off of the roof of a building after an “accidental” bad toss from a friend.
